Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2nd 1981, in Kentwood, Louisiana.

At an early age she was singing in the church choir, and by the time she reached the age of 8 she had already participated in various talent searches.

At this age, Britney auditioned for the popular children's variety show, The New Mickey Mouse Club, but was refused because of her young age.

She then spent the next three summers in New York, where she studied at the Off Broadway Dance Center and at the Professional Performing Arts School.

She began appearing in various Broadway productions.

It was with her third attempt auditioning for the Mickey Mouse Club that she was accepted as one of the Mouseketeers. Also there were Christina Aguilera and her future boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

Later Britney signed with Jive Records, and her debut album, … Baby One More Time was released when she was 17 years old.

The album was a success.

By the time she had released her second album, Oops! … I Did It Again, she had already co-authored a book, Heart to Heart with her mother, Lynne.

Britney dated 'N Sync singer Justin Timberlake. Throughout, Britney insisted that she would not have sex before marriage.

They broke up four years later and because Justin said in interviews that he and Britney did have sex, Britney admitted that she did in fact sleep with him.

Other albums followed, Britney in 2001, and In the Zone in 2003.

During her career, Britney has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music business. She has co-hosted the American Music Awards with L.L. Cool J; performed at the Rock in Rio festival and performed with Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige at the Super Bowl.

In 2001, Britney became a brand ambassador for Pepsi in 2001. She also co-authored another book with her mother called A Mother's Gift. She even (although briefly) entered the restaurant business with her own establishment, Nyla but it was a commercial failure.

Her ambitions of becoming a movie star had a set back when her vehicle Crossroads bombed badly. (She was awarded with the Razzie Awards for Worst Actress!)

Despite being nominated for Grammys on previous occasions and not being successful, she finally managed to win one with Toxic in 2004 under the category of Best Dance Recording!

Britney shocked audiences when she kissed Madonna onstage during a performance that also included Christina Aguilera, at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2003.

In 2004, she launched her fragrance, Curious. A floral scent with vanilla and musk. The fragrance had the biggest debut in sales in history of Elizabeth Arden. Curious was honoured by the Fragrance Foundation, who named it Best Women's Fragrance!

Her greatest hits album, My Prerogative, was released in 2005.
